![]() ![]() Overall, Craig has created a creepy masterpiece that is going to look lovely sitting next to my copy of A House of Salt and Sorrows. I’m not usually a fan of ambiguous endings, but it works in this story. The ending of this story seems a bit ambiguous, a little ominous, and will definitely make you wonder. The monsters in this story are terribly wicked creatures, and I think readers will find them as fascinating as I did. This story will reel you in from the start. And if you love The Village, you’re absolutely going to love this book. ![]() You’ll find engaging and enigmatic characters that seem like friends, but might also be hiding some fiendish intent behind their easy smiles. Sweet, dark, and complex as wildflower honey. Amity Falls is a masterfully crafted world where it’s not just about the monsters that might be hiding out in the woods, but the ones hiding within ourselves as well. Full of beasts, bargains, and blood, Small Favors is a folk horror tale that feels like a classic but is utterly fresh. Craig is a master at creating the creepiest book atmospheres I was sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading this book. ![]() ![]() ![]() (Alexander and girl are “in the city”) L-X-&-R N I R N D C-T (Girl looking at herself in a mirror) I C U while boy and girl wait) B-4 U X-M-N L-C, X-M-N R-V (Boy asking guy lifting big bar-bell, and she responds “It’s easy for you, yes?”) S E-Z 4 U, S? One time when we got together she showed me a book I had given her years earlier: CDB. We became friends and are still friends (although we don’t see each other nearly often enough). Kulikov often places Louis in a window, a potent symbol of the windows Braille himself opened for blind people. ![]() The first-person text, sprinkled with French words and phrases, is lively and intimate, abetted by Kulikov’s warm mixed-media illustrations. Bryant’s portrayal captures Louis’s intelligence, determination, and tenacious desire for access to the written word. Blinded in an accident with one of his leatherworker father’s tools when very young, he learned to get around his French village independently went to school and eventually moved to Paris to attend the Royal Institute for Blind Youth (correctly named in the excellent back matter, though not in the main text), where after years of toil he converted a clumsy military code of raised dots into the elegant, user-friendly system still used today. Louis’s story, much embellished here (in an author’s note, Bryant says the book is her attempt to answer the question “What did it FEEL like to be Louis Braille?”), is dramatic and compelling. ![]() ![]() Bryant and Kulikov present the childhood of Louis Braille, from his 1809 birth to his invention, at fifteen, of his ingenious six-cell raised-dot system of reading and writing for the blind. ![]() ![]() ![]() Circus of Fear (1966) (aka Psycho-Circus) based on the novel Again the Three Just Men.Death Drums Along the River (1963) released in USA as Sanders.Harry Alan Towers produced four Edgar Wallace films in the early 1960s that were international co-productions with Germany: There were 47 films in the series, all released theatrically between 19.
